DIT’s Hugh McAtamney selected for Olympics
DIT’s Hugh McAtamney to officiate at Olympics 2012
27th February, 2012: DIT is to be represented in the 2012 Olympic Games being held in London this summer. Head of Development of Digital Media in DIT, Hugh McAtamney has been selected by the International Triathlon Union to officiate at the 2012 Olympic Games.
Hugh is among 42 Technical Officials from across the world to be selected by the International Triathlon Union to oversee and to officiate the triathlon competition at this year’s Olympics. The selected officials hail from a record number of nations, with 25 different countries represented.
The duties of the Technical Officials are to conduct the competition in accordance with the ITU Competition Rules. They are assigned to Registration, Start, Finish, Transition Area(s), Swim, Cycle, Run, Wheel Stations, Aid Stations, Technology and Vehicle Control.
In addition to his role as Head of Development of Digital Media in DIT, Hugh is one of Ireland’s top technical officials. He is currently Technical Delegate & Official at the International Triathlon Union. A former President of Triathlon Ireland, he was also the mastermind behind the triAthlone and European Triathlon Championships in Athlone in 2010.
Speaking on his selection for this year’s Olympics, Hugh said; “It was a pretty big surprise when the official word came out. It’s an incredible honour and dream come through to officiate the Olympics.”
