DIT launches 'Music at Lunchtimes 2003-2004'
05 November 2003
Professor Brian Norton, President of DIT, today launched the 'Music at Lunchtimes 2003-2004' concert series, presented by DIT's Conservatory of Music and Drama. The series includes fourteen public concerts to take place on Wednesdays at lunchtime between now and next May. The performers are all students of the Conservatory and the venue is The Theatre in DIT's Rathmines Road campus.
Peter Sweeney, a member of the teaching staff in the Conservatory, said he had organized the concert series to provide the students with a public platform for their performance. 'These students are wonderful musicians and deserve to be heard by as wide an audience as possible! Everyone is welcome to attend and there is no admission charge. We have timed the concerts to start at 1.10 pm and finish at 1.50 pm, and can guarantee audiences a delightful interlude in their busy day, listening to some of Ireland's exceptional young musicians.'
Launching the concert series, Professor Brian Norton, President of DIT, said 'The Institute is enormously proud of the students in the Conservatory - of those who have gone on to achieve international acclaim as performers; of those who have become such wonderful teachers to successive generations of new students; and of those whose lives have been enhanced through their music studies. This concert series will provide an opportunity for the public to enjoy some of their wonderful talent!'
Professor Norton also thanked the companies who have given their support through sponsorship, which made the concert series possible.
Admission to the concerts is free and all are welcome. The concerts will also be recorded for broadcast on Lyric FM at a later date.
