FETAC awards
Many FETAC awards at level 5 are linked to higher education programmes in DIT through the Higher Education Links Scheme. There is a reserved quota of places for FETAC applicants on full-time third-level programmes leading to a DIT Higher Certificate, Ordinary Degree and Honours Degree award for students who successfully complete relevant Post-Leaving Certificate courses leading to FETAC Level 5 awards.
In order to be eligible to progress to higher education through the CAO, the full Major Award must be achieved. Component Certificates will not suffice. A major award may be accumulated over more than one year. In such cases, it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that their particular FETAC centre applies to FETAC administration for a major award where courses are taken over more than one year. Application for a major award should be made prior to the CAO application.
Applicants presenting these FETAC awards will be assessed on the basis of the results achieved in each module and points will be awarded. Some programmes require achievement of specified component awards.
Places will be allocated using the points score accumulated by each applicant. Applicants who do not obtain one of these places may still compete on the basis of the Leaving Certificate results in the normal manner.
As the FETAC awards system is going through a major change at present, please see full details of the current scheme operated by DIT on our website www.dit.ie/study/undergraduate/fetac.
