Increasingly spatial information plays a role in everyday life and policy making. Where we do things and how to move around efficiently, how to use limited space most efficiently and with best regard to future generations, are important questions.

The School of Spatial Planning in Dublin Institute of Technology (formerly: School of Environmental Planning and Management) specialises in these areas of spatial measurement and spatial management. It provides three undergraduate degree awards each of which deal with specific fields of professional expertise on spatial issues.
The School forms the third and largest planning school on the island of Ireland. The School teaches students how to develop policies in the areas of sustainable land management. Within the School the Department of Spatial Information Sciences (formerly: Department of Geomatics) provides students with the necessary expertise of data acquisition and spatial referencing. Qualifications obtained are recognised by the professional institutes and industry and the Department provides the single professional qualification in Ireland. The Department of Environment and Planning (formerly: Department of Planning and Development) provides students with the necessary expertise in the areas of land use planning and environmental management.
All qualifications offered within the school are of a strong professional nature leading to good career opportunities. The School also offers a range of Masters programmes and opportunities for postgraduate qualifications by research.
