2018 Survey on Growing a Research Culture in an Institute of Technology

We want to hear from you – Complete the 2018 Survey on Growing a Research Culture in an Institute of Technology

13 March, 2018

Our aim is to identify the factors, that contribute to research activity by academic and research staff across Irish Institutes of Technology (IoT). The central objective of the study is to gauge barriers and enablers faced by staff in undertaking research within IoT.

The results from the study will;

  • provide an evidence base for decisions on future resourcing and services provided by Research Support Offices in IoTs.
  • identify ways in which the research environment for academics and research staff in IoTs could be enhanced to facilitate research activity and improve research outputs.
  • form part of a series of similar studies undertaken by research offices across Europe.
  • provide a benchmark against which progress can be judged in future waves of the surveys.

Who should complete the survey?
If you are academic or research staff within an IoT we would like to hear from you. All research and academic IoT staff are encouraged to complete the survey.Your feedback will help us to identify challenges faced by IoT staff in undertaking research and help us to focus our efforts in overcoming them.

What questions will be asked in the survey?

In the online survey you will be asked to provide information about your research activity, your interaction with your local Research Support office and satisfaction with the support provided.

To protect your anonymity, you will not be asked for your name, date of birth or staff number or any identifying information. You should allow about 15 minutes to complete the survey. The survey will remain open online until 29 March 2018. The Pilot Survey 2018 Participant Information Leaflet provides more information for Staff who are completing the survey.

Your information will help us identify challenges faced by you and by other IoT staff as you undertake research activity. Research Support Offices will use the survey information to ensure that that the supports provided by your local Research Support Office are in line with your need.

The key goal of the study is to enhance the research environment for academics and research staff throughout the IoT sector. We want to provide you with the support you need to facilitate research activity and improve research outputs (funding, papers, etc).

The data generated by the survey will be kept by DIT-REIS and will be shared anonymously with your local Research Support Office. The survey will be repeated annually and the aggregated data set from surveys will be stored in the DIT Open Data Repository.

The survey results will be used to develop reports, presentations and will be used in-house by DIT Research Support Office and local Research Support Office to strengthen research support and training.

Research findings will also be published in national and international journals.
