Joe Kindregan announced as new President of the Institute of Structural EngineersPosted: 14 February, 2018
Mr Joe Kindregan, former Head of the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering in DIT, has been elected as the President of the Institution of Structural Engineers for the year 2019, and will be the first President of the organisation from the Republic of Ireland.
The Institution of Structural Engineers is recognised as the world's leading professional body for structural engineering, with over 27,000 members worldwide in over 110 countries.
Joe's election to the position of President is a great personal honour for him, but also recognises the contribution that DIT has made to the profession with its graduates involved in structural engineering projects throughout the world.
Outlining his aims, Joe said, “As President of the Institution, I hope to continue to promote the internationalism of the Institution, firmly believing that the Institution's future lies in collaborating with other international organisations with similar interests and objectives”.
Dublin Institute of Technology in Bolton Street has had a long association with the Institution of Structural Engineers, from staging their professional examinations to presenting courses and evening lectures. Over many years, Joe has facilitated this association, serving as Republic of Ireland Branch Chairman in addition to several appointments to the Council and Board of the Institution.
Joe's term of office commences in January 2019 and he will give an inaugural address to the Institution at its Bastwick Street Headquarters in London in January 2019. All of his colleagues in DIT wish him every success in his future term of office and look forward to welcoming him back to speak in DIT Bolton Street as part of his presidential year.
