During the academic year 2010-11, DIT is continuing its ePortfolio pilot project with a varety of groups from across the institute. The ePortfolio tool currently in use in DIT is Mahara, available at http://ditportfolios.learnonline.ie/.
The aim of the pilot is to ascertain the level of interest in the wider use of ePortfolios for learning at DIT, as well as to foster a renewed approach to assessment across the institute. As a participant in this pilot, your views and feedback will form an important part in the future adaptation of ePortfolios across the institute. If you're interested in participating in the pilot, please contact Dr Kevin O'Rourke, Head of eLearning Support & Development at 402-7860, or kevin.orourke@dit.ie
A tutorial about the various features of Mahara is available online through the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
Mahara is a fully featured open-source electronic portfolio, weblog, resume builder and social networking system, connecting users and creating online communities. First established in mid 2006, the Mahara project started as collaborative venture funded by New Zealand's Tertiary Education Commission's e-learning Collaborative Development Fund (eCDF), involving Massey University, Auckland University of Technology, The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, and Victoria University of Wellington. More information about Mahara is available from the Mahara website.
The system is hosted by Enovation Solutions on behalf of DIT.
