Tom Flanagan

DIT Hothouse Centre Director

Tom leads DIT Hothouse, the award-winning Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).  DIT Hothouse helps more than ninety knowledge-intensive start-up companies launch each year. Tom also leads the Dublin Regional Innovation Technology Transfer Consortium commercialising leading-edge research for five institutions in the Dublin area, winning several high-profile technology transfer licences with companies such as SONY, Microsoft, Bausch & Lomb, etc.  Tom chaired the Irish Technology Transfer and Innovation Group (ITTIG), the national association of technology transfer and incubation professionals in Ireland, and has also served on the board of Dublin City Enterprise Board and several high-tech companies.   He was also on partial secondment to Knowledge Transfer Ireland (the Central Tech Transfer Office) to lead the review of the National IP Protocol.  Tom has been involved in several successful Horizon 2020 and FP7 proposals, and has been an international evaluator on both programmes recently.

Prior to joining DIT, Tom was Nortel’s Regional Vice-President for Canada and Central US for Professional Services. Prior to that, he built successful business and technical consulting practices in the US and held senior positions in sales, marketing, product management and product design. Tom started his career as an engineer and has a number of patents in telecommunications, including one for survivable fibre-optic rings that he championed to become the worldwide standard. Tom graduated at UCD, completed an MSc at Aston University, UK and an MBA at the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago.

Bernadette O'Reilly

DIT Hothouse Incubation Centre Manager

Bernadette is the Manager of DIT Hothouse Incubation Centre. She holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from Trinity College Dublin and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations from DIT. Bernadette is an experienced and resourceful manager with a proven background in enterprise development. With over 15 years experience of supporting and advising early stage companies around key business development areas, Bernadette has an in-depth understanding of the issues facing start-up companies. As the Incubation Centre Manager, Bernadette is responsible for the delivery of a range of support services to approximately 30 innovative start-up companies per year, as well as assisting an ever-expanding network of over 300 ex-participants.

Bernadette is a former Board Member of the Dublin City Enterprise Board and Technology Innovation International, a European network of technology transfer and innovation specialists.

Paul Maguire

DIT Hothouse Senior Licensing Executive

Paul is Senior Licensing Executive in DIT Hothouse, responsible for ICT and Engineering. Paul is co-founder and former CEO of Arann Healthcare, a Dublin-based company who have developed innovative disinfection technologies for the healthcare market. Paul has a BEng and PhD, both from Dublin City University, and a Masters in Technology Management from the UCD Smurfit Business School. Paul began his career as a post-doctoral researcher in DCU, managing a number of national and internationally-funded research projects in the area of  next-generation optical communications.

In 2008, Paul left academia and joined Lexas Research as an R&D Technologist, later becoming Product Manager. As Product Manager, Paul led the sales and marketing engagement with a number of blue-chip companies, including Intel, Samsung and Bosch, driving the development of several technology products for the plasma processing market. He then became acting CEO and was involved in the successful licensing of Lexas technology to a leading US-based diagnostic company, before co-founding Arann Healthcare in early 2010.

Kieran O’Connell

DIT Hothouse Licensing Executive

‌Kieran O'Connell joined DIT Hothouse as the Food and Life Science Licensing Executive for the Dublin Region Innovation Consortium, serving DIT, IT Tallaght, IT Blanchardstown, IADT and NCI.  Kieran has extensive commercial experience, having worked in senior positions at Unilever in the UK, Roche Pharmaceutical Company and the British sugar company, Tate and Lyle. He has also worked extensively in fast-moving consumer goods for Kepak Convenience Foods, Dawn Farms Foods and VION Food Group and as a consultant for award-winning Centra stores and Supervalu. Kieran has held a number of leadership positions in industry, as Head of the Commercial Function, Head of Food Quality and Head of New Product Development in the food ingredient, retail and food service channels.

A graduate of Queen’s University Belfast, a chartered biologist (Institute of Biology London), Kieran recently graduated with an MBA from University of Stirling in Scotland.

Andrew Marsh

DIT Hothouse Licensing Executive

Andrew is a Licensing Executive in DIT Hothouse providing support for technology transfer for all members of the Dublin Region Innovation Consortium, focusing on ICT and Engineering. Andrew joined the team in Hothouse in 2016 and has worked in the area of technology transfer and IP management for over 10 years. This included over seven years as Intellectual Property Director for Kaleidescape, a Silicon Valley based consumer electronics company, where he grew the company’s patent portfolio to over 50 patents, and two and half years working in the Office of Technology Transfer in UCC.

Andrew has a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh and a BSc and MSc in Mathematical Science from NUI, Galway and is an inventor on two patents in the area of digital media.

Linda Moloney

DIT Hothouse Marketing Manager


Linda is DIT Hothouse's Marketing Manager. Her industry experience includes tourism, hospitality, retail and financial services. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth and a Masters Degree from the Dublin Institute of Technology. In addition to to her full-time role in DIT Hothouse, she loves running and travelling the globe.

Gavin Davidson

DIT Hothouse Programme Manager - New Frontiers

 

Gavin joins DIT Hothouse from UK Trade & Investment, Ireland. Here he worked as a Trade Advisor assisting UK businesses grow and export, as well as promoted UK plc in Ireland. Previous to this, he worked in the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland, the Irish Exporters’ Association and Forfás in business policy and support functions.
 
He holds a B.A. Double Honours (International) Degree in Economics and German, and a Higher Diploma in Finance, both from NUI Maynooth. He also undertook an ERASMUS exchange year in Munich, Germany.

Michelle Moloney

Michelle is the Project Coordinator for DIT Hothouse’s New Frontiers Programme, a development programme for start-ups and entrepreneurs. Her experience in DIT ranges from Student Fee Administrator, Campus Life Project Officer with a number of years as the Payments & Self Funded Projects Supervisor in DIT’s Finance Department.

Anne Marie Kelly

DIT Hothouse Administrator‌

Anne Marie is the Office Administrator for the DIT Hothouse Technology Transfer Office in DIT Aungier Street. Prior to this role, Anne Marie worked as a School Administrator in the College of Engineering & Built Environment, DIT Bolton Street and also held an administrator role in the Office of the Director & Dean of the College of Engineering & Built Environment.

Anne Marie holds an NCEA Certificate in Business Studies from IT Carlow and an IMI Certificate in Supervisory Management.
