What's on Campus
Some of the historic listed buildings on the site have been re-developed and the space has been re-designed for 21st century educational purposes.
North House and Rathdown House will accommodate flexible teaching and learning facilities, design studios, labs and exhibition space. The following facilities are also on site for September 2014:
The catering service, serving hot food and snacks, will be located in The Courtyard, Rathdown House. In addition, vending machines will be available in the major buildings around the campus.
The library service will be located in Rathdown House.
The whole Grangegorman campus – inside and in the open areas – will be WiFi enabled, with excellent coverage so you can be online and in touch wherever you are on campus.
A fitness studio (suitable for dance classes, pilates, yoga, etc,) and a fitness suite (with resistance and cardio-vascular machines, strength and conditioning area, free weights, small assessment area, and reception desk), will both be provided in the Glassmonogue building. Both facilities will be co-located with associated showers / changing facilities.
Sports facilities include:
- All-weather pitch and associated floodlighting
- Tennis courts (3) / all-weather training area – floodlit
- Multi-use games area – tarmac court for basketball / kick-around
- Jogging track – with lighting, around the all-weather and turf pitches
There are also full-size turf GAA and soccer pitches at Grangegorman but these will not be available immediately as the reseeding process requires at least one full growing season before use.
Spaces for events
A small multi-purpose event space will be provided in the Bradogue building for student organisations – workshops, rehearsals, etc.
St Laurence, the Catholic Church built in 1850, has been designed as a multi-purpose space that can be used for exhibitions, rehearsals, workshops, speakers, receptions, meditation as well as religious service. The Bradogue building will also have a social area, with comfortable seating room for a pool table etc.
Campus Support Team
The Campus Support Centre with access to Academic Administration, Student Counsellor, Disability Learning Support Officer, Careers, etc, will be located in Rathdown House.
DITSU/Clubs and Societies
There will also be facilities for DITSU and for Clubs and Societies in the Bradogue building. A Student Media Centre will also be available for use by club and society members.
The Park Shopping Centre is beside the campus on Prussia Street, with a Tesco, ATM, pharmacy, bakery/deli, post office, medical centre, hairdresser/barbers, laundry/dry cleaners and a number of other small retail units. Stoneybatter and Smithfield have cafes, bars and restaurants.
From September 2014, opening hours on the new campus will be as follows:
Monday-Friday 8am to 10pm
Saturday 8.30am to 5pm
These hours will be reviewed periodically to ensure that they meet the needs of DIT students and staff. During opening hours, access to all building will be available electronically using student/staff ID cards. There will be extensive CCTV and help points, monitored on a 24 hour basis by security staff based in Orchard House. There will also be a roving security service serving the whole campus.
DIT Grangegorman will eventually have 2,000 student accommodation spaces on the campus. If you are starting a course at DIT and need help finding accommodation, visit our accommodation news story.
