Welcome to the webpage of MA sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach/ MA in Applied Irish.
This part-time, two year course was offered for the first time in January 2008. The MA is taught by the School of Languages, Faculty of Applied Arts, Dublin Institute of Technology, in conjunction with Gaelchultúr Teoranta (www.gaelchultur.com). The next course will commence in September 2011.
The deadline for applications for the 2011 course has passed and the class is now full. No further applications for the 2011 course can be accepted. Applications for the course commencing in September 2013 will be accepted from January 2013. (Application form available to download on the Information for Applicants page).
New employment opportunities have emerged in recent years for graduates who have high level language skills in Irish, especially since the passing into law of the Official Languages Act 2003 and the recognition of Irish as an official working language of the European Union. This new MA programme in Applied Irish is aimed at employees in the public sector who work or will work through the medium of Irish and at graduates to wish to take advantage of the employment opportunities which will be available in Ireland and in Europe in the years ahead.
The course will also be suitable for those who wish to work as translators, interpreters, lawyer- linguists, proofreaders and secretaries, and it will be of interest as well to teachers, journalists and those working in business and in cultural tourism.
