New Student -helpful hints and tips




If you are an International Student you will need to obtain a GNIB card.  In order to obtain one, you will need to book an appointment at immigration registration.  Pick an appointment time that suits you, once you have made the booking you will receive a confirmation email detailing the documents you need to take with you.



It is important to enrol on your programme in order to gain access to all of the DIT services. Enrolment detail will be sent to you by post, this letter will invite you to register on your DIT Programme. Once you have registered you can gain assess to DIT services such as Webcourses and the Library.  Staff in the DIT Registration Service are available to help you if you run into difficulty, they have a very detailed webpage answering your Frequently asked questions



Timetables are available on line via our portal or in some cases, they will be given to you by your programme tutor.  Be sure to follow the five step instructions to ensure you can access yours successfully.



S-Student ID card


You will need your Student ID card to access the Library, exam halls, and in some cases, you may need it to access your classrooms on-site.  It will also come in handy for lots of Student Discounts. You must be a registered student in order to obtain your Student Card.    Get your card here

T- Travel Card


The Student Leap service is an important money-saver.  Download the form and have it stamped at one of our Student Service Centres .

You can apply via the postal service or take it to the nearest Student Leap Agent

A- App

The Student Services Self Service App is designed to keep all the tools you need in one little app.  You can register for your programme, select your modules and check your exam results right here... so don’t forget to download at the apple or google play stores.


R- Real-Time


Communication is key when it comes to College Life.  Keep up to date in real-time on Facebook “Dublin Institute Technology” and follow us on Twitter @DITOfficial.  Want to know when your exam timetables will be posted… Twitter/Facebook will tell you first.   We will also e-mail your student e-mail account so make sure it is set up and you check it regularly.

E- Exams

Yes, it’s early in the year but why not have a browse around the exams website so you’re prepped well in advance.  Exam timetables are posted online approximately one month in advance of the exam commencement date.  Remember you will need your Student ID card to access the exam hall.


Each year a small percentage of our students decide for various reasons to Defer or Withdraw from their programme. College life is expensive and we don’t want you out of pocket.  It is important that you are aware that there are financial implications if you decide to withdraw or defer after the 31st October annually.  If you’re considering withdrawal or deferral you need to inform yourself, check our website for more information.
