Welcome to the School of Civil and Structural Engineering
Congratulations to Mr. Sayed Ahmad Saeed who was awarded the Irish Regional Prize for the Built Environment Category of the 2016 Undergraduate Awards. Sayed is a Civil Engineering student in DIT and his award is based on the quality of his final year thesis. His project was entitled “Analysis of the existing operation of Walkinstown roundabout and traffic impact of its conversion to a signalized junction”. Civil and Structural Engineering at DIT
We offer a range of Undergraduate and Postgradute courses, from Level 7 up to Level 9, in civil and structural engineering. Our courses are fully accredited with Engineers Ireland and with the Institute of Structural Engineers.
Our courses have a strong technical and practical focus, however, we also place great emphasis on developing our students fully with team working skills and professional development being important core components of our courses. Our graduates are highly sought after both in Ireland and abroad.

What is Civil Engineering?
Civil Engineering is a broad professional discipline that includes the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment that our society depends on. In other words, Civil Engineers build roads, bridges, airports, railways, ports, roads, buildings, water, waste and energy systems.
What is Structural Engineering?
Structural engineering is about the safe and economical design of many different types of structures – buildings, bridges, factories, power stations, communication towers, dams, stadiums, oil and gas rigs, wind turbines. It involves many different activities including research, planning, design, construction, inspection and maintenance.
