DIT graduate Katy Judge wins Grand Prix
Katy Judge, who graduated in 2007, won the Irish Design Effectiveness Awards (IDEA) 2009 Grand Prix for Designworks with her work on Michaela's Music House. Also in the picture below (on right) is Martin Gaffney, Managing Director of Designworks and graduate. DIT has an unequalled record in producing designers that have won IDEA Awards. Last year Wendy Kavanagh won the Grand Prix for her work on Voya Seaweed Baths packaging with Dynamo Design.
The IDEA Awards are unique because the design solutions are measured for their economic effectiveness and perceptible influence. According to Design Business Ireland "design programmes are too often judged soley on their visual content rather than how they met the objectives of the client brief." By highlighting and rewarding effectiveness the sector continues to raise an understanding of "design as a key communications expression and encourages business to exploit the power of strategically led design".
